Good selection here, John, several I don’t know. I think you were the one who introduced me to Ren’s music. I enjoyed his rap to the tune of “Bitter Sweet Symphony.”

Thank you for listening and caring enough to comment. I truly appreciate it. I create this list to learn more about the music I love. In short, I do it for myself. And so it is icing on the cake when someone else can enjoy parts of that journey with me.

I wasn't sure I would have a list this week. I had a few tracks selected from earlier in the week but then fell down a rabbit hole today starting with Ren's adaptation of the Verve which I came across a few weeks back. This in turn took me back through additional sources. Bittersweet Symphony from Last Time by The Rolling Stones and it's orchestral adaptation by The Andrew Oldham Orchestra, then all the way back to its traditional gospel roots with This May Be the Last Time by The Staple Singers. Then the magic of Youtube delivered me a gem in the form of one of the last recording sessions of Levon Helm's life with an absolutely brilliant performance by Mavis Staples. Carry On was recorded in 2011, the year before Helm's death, and released in 2022. How can one song have so much influence? Each artist bringing something entirely new to the piece. I could have done a 10 song list with this journey alone.

Wow, that is indeed quite a journey! Some songs have such a lot of history in them.

It’s my pleasure to visit when I see news of a new post. It’s great to be exposed to stuff I likely wouldn’t find on my own. There’s so much out there, it’s great to have all these eyes and ears that share.
