John I had come to make a comment after listening but it somehow vanished (operator error, probably wasn't signed in). Anyway, I enjoyed the list, some old faves and I appreciated your remark to Michelle about it moving from darkness to light. Certainly flows nicely.

The Unthanks' piece was a remarkable for that scene in The Detectorists, a charming show we enjoyed so much. And II just love "What's Up."

D'oh, I hate that. Thank you for both comments. Glad you feel the same way about The Detectorists. To me that show was just about perfect. A great use of the medium. I was surprised and delighted to see the collaboration. I feel equal enthusiasm for Upright, the Aussie mini-series featured above. Marsden had such a great show tonight. Jive was great too.

Yes, ‘The Detectorists’ is one of those series you never want to end and feel an absence after finishing it.

Haven’t seen ‘Upright’ but will have to look for it. We just finished watching ‘Saint-Pierre’ on CBC Gem. Quite good acting and chemistry between the leads, and the S1 finale ends with a very effective use of Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight.”

Great show last night, yeah. I had listened to Jive earlier in the week, and was knackered so signed off early. Will probably stay for Scott tonight.

I watched the premier of Saint Pierre but it didn't click with me so went no further. In the Upright series, season 1 is the clear winner, but unlike many, I enjoyed season 2 almost as much. That takes places 4 years after season 1 in the lives of the characters. See you tonight.

I listened to the whole list on a recent snowed-in housebound day. There seemed to be almost a spring-is-coming theme, in minor keys, and the music and lyrics sometimes on the edge of giving up, but defiantly persisting. I am a sucker for centuries old songs BTW

Thank You Michelle for listening all the way through. This is my life in a nutshell these days. and you described it beautifully. There is sadness and even despair. Grief is a dark cave. But grief is also a road. The beginning of something new. And in the darkness of winter, the promise of spring is somewhere out there. I tried to turn the selections slowly from darkness to light. Hopefully, this is the path I am on. It is not a linear path. I'm glad you liked Magpie. I love the Detectorists series so much. And this song carries that same quiet intelligence that so typifies that show. It's such a clean sound. I found the music and the video transformative, referencing the passage of time and the cycles of human existence. The song speaks to the defiance of dark forces that gather around us in times of vulnerability.
